Simons is a Postdoctoral Fellow in Technology and Democracy at the Carr Center for Human Rights and the Edmond  and Lily Safra Center for Ethics, Harvard University. Josh’s research explores the political character of predictive tools like AI and machine learning and how those tools should be governed to support the flourishing of democracy. His first book, Citizen Rule: How to Make Machine Learning Work For Us, will be published in January 2023, and is based on his PhD dissertation which received the American Political Science Association (APSA) prize in Information Technology and Politics. Josh has worked as a Visiting Research Scientist in AI at Facebook; a Research Fellow at the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence, Cambridge University; a US-India Technology Policy Fellow at New America, and is the Director of Labour Together in the UK.
